Bennett Stusek is a receiver from Regina, Saskatchewan who will be heading down to Arlington, Texas this upcoming January to represent Canada at the 2018 International Bowl as a member of the National Under-18 team.
For the receiver, the sport runs deep in his family. Therefore, it was inevitable that he would play football.
“My dad played football as a kid, my brother played it,” said Stusek. “I got into it and fell right in love with it.”
Stusek has played in Regina Minor Football (RMF) and for the Campbell Tartans of the Regina Intercollegiate Football League (RIFL).
Recently, the receiver enjoyed a career highlight he helped the Tartans win both the city and provincial 4A Championships.
This past July, Stusek helped Saskatchewan claim the silver medal at the 2017 Football Canada Cup in Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
“It’s intense,” expressed Stusek of the tournament. “It’s a long week, it’s a hard week but it’s getting to play against high level competition has prepared me for the next level.”
“It’s a fun experience.”
Reaching his goal of making the national team, the Regina native is thrilled to have achieved this feat and looks forward to representing Canada at the 2018 International Bowl.
“It’s been a goal of mine for quite some time,” added Stusek. “Having it come to fruition is an honour.”
“It’s a lot of pressure but it’s going to be fun to play the American game, which I am excited for.
On the field, Stusek tries to emulate multiple CFL and NFL players including Weston Dressler, Deandre Hopkins and Cole Beasley.
As for role models in his life, Stusek says it’s his father and brother.
“They’ve taught me so much,” expressed the receiver. “My dad coaches for the Regina Rams so he knows a lot about football.”
