Nova Scotia takes home the Bronze Medal after defeating host New Brunswick 24-17 at the 2024 U16 Regional Challenge

July 21, 2024, Antigonish, NS – Nova Scotia secured the bronze medal in the U16 Eastern Regional Challenge with a hard-fought 24-17 victory over host New Brunswick at OLand Stadium in Antigonish, NS, on Sunday.

The first quarter saw both teams trading special teams plays. New Brunswick opened the scoring with Will Lacompte’s rouge at 00:05. Nova Scotia quickly responded with Luke Bowden’s 18-yard field goal at 04:02, taking a 3-1 lead. New Brunswick evened the score at 3-3 with a team safety at 10:54, setting the stage for a competitive match.

Nova Scotia’s offense found its rhythm in the second quarter. Seth May scored two crucial touchdowns, first with a 1-yard run at 01:00 and then with a 2-yard run at 09:09, both converted by Luke Bowden. New Brunswick answered back at 10:14 when Brennan Martin connected with Aiden Vautour for a 23-yard touchdown pass, narrowing Nova Scotia’s lead to 17-10 at halftime.

The third quarter saw both teams exchanging touchdowns. Nova Scotia extended their lead at 07:16 with Seth May’s third touchdown of the game, a 7-yard run converted by Luke Bowden. New Brunswick responded at 11:59 with Louka Beaudoin’s 2-yard run, converted by Will Lacompte, bringing the score to 24-17 in favor of Nova Scotia.

Despite both teams’ efforts, the fourth quarter remained scoreless, with defenses holding strong on both sides. Nova Scotia managed to maintain their lead, securing the bronze medal with a final score of 24-17.
