2023 U16 Flag National Championship underway in Nova Scotia
July 31, Ottawa, ON – The 2023 edition of Football Canada’s U16 Flag Football National Championship got underway on Monday in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, bringing together 11 girls teams and 13 boys teams from across the country competing for the title that will be decided on Wednesday.
The girls’ tournament remains wide open after the first day of competition. Team Québec Blue and Team Saskatchewan White maintained a perfect 3-0 record in pool B action, while their provincial counterparts, Team Québec White and Team Saskatchewan Green both won two of their three first games. While some matchups led to high-flying performances, four games were decided within one score.
On the boys’ side, Team BC Black (pool A) and Team Saskatchewan Green (pool B) were the only ones to collect all available points on the first day of action, Team Ontario Red (pool A), Team Nova Scotia Blue, Team BC Orange, and Team Ontario White (pool B) not far behind with two wins and a loss each. The matchup between Team NS Blue and Team BC Orange was one of the very exciting skills displays on day 1, both teams firing on all cylinders, BC running away with a high scoring 53-46 win.
Both tournaments continue Tuesday with the final group phase games before moving on to the playoffs starting at 4 pm on the field at St. Francis Xavier University.
