Football Canada’s Path to 2024 for National Junior Team Begins
TEAM CANADA LOOKING TO THREE-PEAT ON GLOBAL STAGE
OTTAWA – Football Canada is excited to announce the first stage of the high-performance pathway for athletes hoping to be part of Team Canada at the IFAF Junior World Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, set for June 2024. National Identification Camps will be held coast to coast, with support and collaboration from each Provincial Sport Organization, from December 1st – December 18th, 2023. A detailed schedule of dates and locations, along with the registration link, is included below.
These Identification camps will serve as the basis for the Selection Committee to identify promising talents nationwide, the other criteria will be based on:
– Physical attributes (assessed via PurpleShift app)
– Football proficiency (based on performance during 2022 and 2023 Football Canada Events, game tape reviews, and coaching insights)
– Synergy with the team’s systems and strategies
– Distinct qualities like coachability, leadership, and responsibility
Joey Swarbrick, Interim Director of Sport at Football Canada, said, “Our aim with the Path To 2024 is to provide a transparent identification roadmap. This will equip athletes nationwide with a clear picture of the requirements for team selection.”
Jim Mullin, Football Canada president, expressed his enthusiasm, “It’s a privilege to play for Team Canada. We are eager to showcase the depth of our football talent as we attempt to win a third consecutive World Junior Championship title.”
