UdeM Flag Football wins 3rd straight CCWF Showcase
This past weekend the CCWF Showcase brought together teams from Ontario and Québec for an electrifying backdrop to the 59th Vanier Cup weekend in Kingston, Ontario. The event highlighted the growing prominence of women’s flag football in Canada, further energizing the sport as it builds momentum toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
UdeM continued its reign, clinching its third consecutive Canadian Collegiate Women’s Flag Showcase title.
2024 CCWF medalists:
1st Place: Université de Montréal
2nd Place: Université Laval
3rd Place: Cégep de Saint-Laurent
The success of the CCWF Showcase was made possible through a collaborative effort involving the Ontario Women’s Intercollegiate Football Association (OWIFA), Football Ontario, and Football Québec organizers. Their contributions were instrumental in delivering a high-calibre event that showcased the best in women’s collegiate flag football in Ontario and Québec while fostering cross-provincial collaboration to grow the sport nationally.
Reflecting on the event, Manager of Flag Football Development for Football Ontario and Founder and former Executive Director of OWIFA Olivia Ghosh-Swaby shared:
“The Canadian Collegiate Women’s Flag Showcase has been a dream come to life since it began at the 2022 Western Vanier Cup. Bringing together 12 of the top collegiate programs—6 from Ontario and 6 from Québec—this event was created to shine a spotlight on Olympic-style flag football and celebrate the incredible talent of women athletes on a national stage.
As a former collegiate flag football athlete, this initiative is deeply personal to me. With Football Ontario’s support, I set out to create a space where women could thrive, compete, and be recognized in the game we love. My goal has always been to unite and elevate women’s collegiate flag football across the country, showcasing its potential to varsity programs and organizations like USports. Flag football is the future of women’s collegiate athletics, and these student-athletes deserve a platform that matches their skill, passion, and dedication. This showcase is proof that women belong in football—in every sense of the word.”
The Canadian Collegiate Women’s Flag Showcase has become a powerful platform for identifying and developing talent as flag football gains traction at the collegiate level. With the sport set to debut in the 2028 Olympics, Canada’s rising stars are already showcasing their potential to compete on the world stage.
This past weekend’s events highlighted the growing strength of women’s football in Canada and the enduring influence of Québec as a powerhouse in the sport. As the Université de Montréal celebrates yet another championship, the question looms:
Are we witnessing the first Canadian Flag Football dynasty?
